WHAT WE DID IN CLASS
- Module 4. Quel est le thème ? Les métiers = les professions
- p. 94, Read sentences aloud for pronunciation, reinforce vocab
- Pôle emploi National database in France to help people who are unemployed (au chômage) find a job, get unemployment benefits, find training to get a better job, etc.
- Le chômage ≈ 10 % en France (comparaison : 10,5 % en Europe, Espagne 25 %, USA 6 %)
- p. 113 Masc vs. fém
- Regardez les exemples
- Note that some professions are always masculine: professeur, etc.. Others have a special feminine form like we saw (femme d’affaires, etc.)
- Suggestion: Learn both forms when learning professions.
- p. 95 — Prononcez ! ex. A et B ensemble.
- p. 95, ex. 2. Avec un camarade.
- p. 96 — biographies. Écoutez. Discussion rapide.
- Elle est avocate — article indéfini ? Non
- Il est haïtien — Non
- Ce sont des footballeurs — Oui
- C’est un écrivain — Oui
- Note that C’est un, C’est une, Ce sont des have the article after them ; Il/Elle est, Ils/Elles sont do not
- p. 113: Des nationalités (you can look at these more at home)
- p. 114. Structure:
- Il / Elle est + profession/nationality
- Ils / Elles sont +profession/nationality
- adjectives: no articles are used
- C’est un(e) + profession/nationality
- Ce sont des + profession/nationality
- nouns: articles are used
- Il est avocat = C’est un avocat
- Means exactly the same thing
- So, if there’s an article or if the profession/nationality is modified (by an adjective, for example), you MUST use «c’est / ce sont »
- Il est médecin OR C’est un médecin
- C’est un bon médecin.
- C’est un médecin français
- p. 114, ex. 2. Individu.
- Lieux de travail = Où (where) les personnes travaillent
- p. 97. Les lieux de travail. Répétez.
- le café = the café / coffeeshop
- p. 115. Verbe aller.Répétez.
- p. 115. Prépositions with à (in/to/at somewhere), often used with the verb aller
- à + definite article (to the, at the, in the)
- à + le => au
- à + la => à la
- à + l’ => à l’
- à + les => aux
- p. 97, ex. 5. Avec un partenaire
- Pictionnaire — people drew on the board to have the rest of the class guess the profession
- I handed back the tests and your grades for the oral interviews
