Activités en classe —

  • Les Français à table — Les repas (meals) en France
    • PowerPoint on what the French do/eat at different meals
    • includes Vrai/Faux comprehension questions.
  • p. 196, ex. 2 — Recettes (recipes) — with a partner, list some ingredients that you think could/should be used
  • Verbs with spelling changes, p. 215. Révision (review) ensemble.
•Verbs like préférer, verbs like acheter, and verbs like appeler are “boot” verbs:

    • The je, tu, il, ils forms have the same stem (careful with the accents or double letters: je préfère, j’achète, j’appelle, etc.)
•the nous and vous forms are the same as in the infinitive (nous préférons, nous achetons, nous appelons)
    • Verbs like manger (ending in -ger) and commencer (ending in -cer) have special forms for the nous form
•Difference between hard c and g (like English coal and goal) and soft c and g (like English cell and gel):

      • •nous mangeons (-e- to keep the soft g sound)
      • •nous commençons (-ç- to keep the soft c sound: think of garçon)
    • •Reminder for accent names:
      • •é accent aigu
      • •è accent grave
      • •ç cédille
  • p. 216, ex. 1. Réponses ensemble (regardez p. 215 pour vous aider)

• Les marchands et les magasins différents (Informations). I gave a brief overview of this; we’ll practice more with this on Wednesday.

DEVOIRS, annonces, etc. —

• À faire (to do)

  • iLrn — next batch due Tuesday.
  • Please don’t forget to always
    • check the Documents tab the morning of or night before every class and download or print out any sheets and
    • read the pages on the calendrier before coming to class.

• Annonces —

  • As I mentioned, we will probably have a visitor on Wednesday to observe my teaching. As always, please make sure you’re in class and ready to participate. Merci !
  • The French film festival on campus is starting on Mon, Feb. 22. See the Points bonus section for details on this and other extra credit.
  • Free tutoring hours — the Plus… section of the site has hours and locations.
  • If you missed any previous classes, don’t forget to check what we did — previous posts below list what we did, what the homework was, etc. (and whenever you’re absent, you should always check the Archives to see what we did in class, what HW is coming up, etc. The Archives are usually updated by 9pm after class.)

À bientôt !
