Below there’s info on tutoring, our study abroad program in Lille France, links to sites, dictionaries, and other resources that might come in handy. More to come soon!

  • Study abroad — A meeting Monday, Feb. 8 at 2:15 pm in Jones 249 for anyone interested in studying abroad in Lille, France this summer or in the future. Flyer here.
  • Tutoring options:
    • The new tutoring hours for the Educational Support Program and French section can be found by clicking here (UPDATED Feb. 1)
      • In both cases, it’s free and there’s no appointment needed!
      • Please stop by to get general help or practice with French (not to ask them to correct or do specific assignments).
      • More info on the French section here and ESP here.
    • Your iLrn also comes with five hours of free online tutoring by clicking on the « TUTOR » link at the top of the iLrn window when viewing the Assignment Calendar. More information can be found on p. 15 of the iLrn user guide.
  • Check out the Points bonus section for info on how to get extra credit on the Table francophone, French Club, or other activities.
  • Dictionaires. As a beginning learner, you should mostly be using basic words and expressions like those found in your book because you probably won’t understand more complicated words and structures. Here are some sites or apps though where you can look up an occasional word. Remember it’s NOT allowed to use an online translator (where you put in a word and it automatically puts it in another language for you). You CAN us these resources instead to look up words, check their meaning and usage.
    • WordReference. Two French-English / English-French dictionaries and discussion threads submitted by users. They also have a free app for iPhone/iPad and Android
    • LaRousse. Free French-English / English-French dictionary from one of France’s top publishers.
    • Paper dictionaries (generally the bigger, the better)
    • IF YOU’RE NOT SURE whether you can use an app/resource, please ask me!
