Attendance & Punctuality
One of the most important components of becoming an employee is understanding that you are part of a team. When you are part of a team, it means that other people are counting on you!
Being late or missing days that you are scheduled to work are the primary reason why employees who have good skills get fired. One of the first responsibilities you have as an employee is to understand the schedule. As soon as you get your schedule you should make sure that you do not have any conflicts with your other responsibilities.
If you have an emergency such as being sick or a special event planned like a family party, sporting event, or vacation it is okay to miss work. However, it is very important that you follow the appropriate steps.
In an emergency situation, you should notify your employer immediately. Let them know that you are sick and will not be able to come in. If you have a special event, you should notify your boss at least two weeks in advance. If you work the same schedule every week, you can be proactive by asking co-workers who are not already scheduled to cover your shift.
Remember that when others ask you to cover a shift for them. You may not want to do it, but it will be easier to ask for a favor when you are willing to help others.
