Every time you send out your resume, it is important to include a customized cover letter for the job you are applying for. While your resume functions as a summary of all of your experiences and accomplishments, a cover letter describes why you are well suited for the job.
There are some important tips for developing a cover letter:
- Take the time to find out who to address the letter to an the entry level, typically the manager. If you cannot find the manager’s name use the name of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) or the Director of Human Resources (HR).
- Never start your cover letter with I or Hello
- Keep in mind that when searching for a job, you are solving a problem for someone! You are their answer to finding someone who will do a great job for their team. The potential employer doesn’t care so much about what you want.
- Spellcheck and proofread your letter (sometimes it helps to read the letter out loud!)
