It is a good idea to apply for as many jobs that you feel that you are suited for when looking for employment. Sometimes there are seasonal slow downs or an employer already has enough workers so you have to wait. In order to improve your chances it is smart to apply for multiple opportunities.
Sometimes, if you have done a good job searching for an employment opportunity you will find that you get more than one job offer. This is a good problem to have! In this section we will be taking a look at the best way to evaluate job opportunities.
Assignment: You have done such a good job submitting applications that you now have two different opportunities for a summer job. A description of the opportunities is as follows:
1. Position one will be working as a cashier for Kroger. The job is about a mile from your home, and you will be able to walk. Kroger has offered you a rate of $7.50 per hour and they have asked you to work 10 hours per week. Your hours will be Fridays from 3:00-6:00 PM, on both Saturdays and Sundays from 2:00-6:00 PM. In addition to your pay you will receive 5% off of all of the groceries you purchase for your family. This position is for the summer only.
2. Position two will be working for the Malco Theater. The job is three miles from your home and you will have to rely on others for transportation. Malco has offered you $7.75 per hour and $8.75 on weekends and nights. Malco has offered you 15 hours per week during the matinee. Your hours will be Tuesday-Saturday from 1:30-4:30 PM. In order to take this job you will need to purchase a uniform for $20.00. Once you return to school Malco wants you to work every Friday night from 4:00-10:00 PM. After completing your first six months taking tickets there will be other job opportunities that you can move into. In addition, Malco will give you five free movie passes per month.
