Your volunteer experiences are just as important as paid work positions, especially if you worked for someone who can speak about the quality of your work. Make sure to think about all of your responsibilities associated with your volunteer positions such as leadership, fundraising, sales, etc. Start with your most recent position first.

Think of the people in your life who can talk about your skills and your value as a future employee. The people you select should be able to talk about wither your technical skills (work, volunteer, school performance) or your soft skills (hard worker, dependable, reliable.) It is a very good idea to ask each person in advance so you will know the best way to contact them and if they are agreeable to being your reference.
Think about people like your teachers, coaches, club advisors, work supervisors, and neighbors. DO NOT include family members or people who will not be able to speak directly about positive experiences about interacting with you.
Every time a reference helps you to get a job it is very important to thank them and to let them know the outcomes of your job application process. You will never know if you will need to ask these people again in the future.
Record the information about each reference below after you have spoken with them.

You have organized all of the information you will need to complete your resume! All of the information should fit into one document.
You should begin your resume with neatly designed contact information in bold. Times New Roman or Arial is the font of choice and it should be in 10 or 12 pt. Your resume should always use black ink, and it should be free of any graphics or art work. It is a good idea to use bullet points between your accomplishments. Be consistent in your headings (bold) and use the same uniform line spacing throughout.
It is not good form to use pronouns in your resume—-remember your goal is to get a job. Think about making this resume about solving a need for the employer not about what you are looking for.
After your contact information, you will use you’re your summary statement, followed by information about your education, then your work or volunteer experience. Avoid using the same action word whenever possible. Finally, you will include your list of references.
During every new work experience it is important to update your resume. If you wait until the work experience is over, it is likely that you will forget some of the skills you learned and the value that you brought to the team.
When printing your resume you should use standard 8 ½” x 11 bonded resume paper.
