Memphis Music Hall of Famer Knox Phillips dies

The University of Memphis and College of Communication and Fine Arts community are saddened to hear about the loss of Knox Phillips, who died Wednesday at age 74 at his home in Eads, Tennessee. Knox, a renowned producer, publisher, Memphis Music Hall of Famer and the son of legendary Sun Records founder Sam Phillips, is remembered for his tireless dedication and devotion to the music that made Memphis, as well as the thriving musical community he helped build through his work at Sun Studio.

In 2008, Knox received the Distinguished Achievement Award in the Creative and Performing Arts from the University of Memphis College of Communications and Fine Arts at an annual luncheon. In addition, he served on the Music Advisory Board for the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music.
