Art Museum of the U of M holds Juried Student Awards

The College of Communication and Fine Arts’ Department of Art held its 36th annual Juried Student Awards ceremony this week at the Art Museum of the University of Memphis. Forty-nine students entered 135 works in the competition, with 31 works by 21 students being selected for public display.

The awards were selected by Brian Jobe, an artist, educator, independent curator and non-profit co-director based in Nashville. Art Department Chair Richard Lou, CCFA Dean Dr. Anne Hogan and Regina Rastall, graduate admissions counselor, served as presenters.

The winners:

$1,000 University of Memphis President’s Purchase Award: Tracy Treadwell, Try Your Best To Remember, painted wood and steel rod, 40″ x 40″ x 67”

$1,000 University of Memphis Graduate School Graduate Purchase Award: Clay Palmer, Exodus to the New Age, oil on canvas, 64″ x 64″ x 1.5”

$300 Art Department Graduate Prize: Kaitlyn Dunn, Untitled (Absorption), inkjet print on metallic paper on sintra, 24″ x 36″ x 1.5″

$300 Art Department Undergraduate Prize: Denzel Sterling Porter, Zoe Bo, photography, 8.5’’ x 11”

$500 ArtLab Installation Award, provided by Friends of the Art Museum: Judith Dierkes, Film 2 Fiber

$100 Merchandise Certificate, provided by Art Center Supply Stores Inc: Richard Echols, The Girl in Red, oil paint, 36″ x 25″ x 1″
