Academies

The database of academy membership is derived from the work of the Congrès des sociétés historiques (CTHS), which has compiled a dataset of thousands of members of French academies.[1]  While there were 9,000 members of nineteenth-century French academies, only 2,408 members of 64 nineteenth-century French academies had significant connections to the literary community. The French Academy was the central pillar of this system but it was truly a national system, with significant participation from provincial academies.
