This week we feature undergraduate student JoAnna Boudreaux. JoAnna won’t be an undergraduate for much longer though as she graduates with her BA on December 13th and is beginning in our Master’s program in January. JoAnna was the recipient of the department’s 2015 Jerry Michel Outstanding Senior Award.
JoAnna’s primary interests within sociology lie in the way that social forces work together to shape identity and the life course. She is particularly interested in the ways that race, class and gender impact family life, parenting strategies and healthcare outcomes. She is concerned with poverty, healthcare inequality and domestic abuse.
When she finishes in the Master’s program JoAnna plans to pursue a PhD in sociology with the ultimate goal of working in the non-profit or public sector to help minorities or refugees.
JoAnna grew up in Memphis. She is the mother of five children ages 21, 19, 17, 15 and 13. She also has a much loved Siamese cat. She has been married for 22 years. In her free time JoAnna enjoys reading and spending time at the ocean.
