Snakes and Ladders: A Gamified Introduction to US Spanish
Aprende a analizar críticamente las ideologías y prejuicios subyacentes en las actitudes hacia el español en contacto con el inglés, conoce la historia del español en EE. UU., los derechos lingüísticos de los hispanohablantes y los estándares y prácticas recomendadas en traducción e interpretación por medio del juego “Escaleras y serpientes: El español de EE. UU.”. El objetivo de los/as participantes es preservar su español y pasárselo a la siguiente generación. Para lograrlo, tendrán que enfrentar varios desafíos. “Escaleras y serpientes” es un recurso educativo abierto.
CARACTERÍSTICAS TÉCNICAS
- Formato: Escaleras y serpientes + trivia
- Participantes: 2-6 (organizador + de 1 a 5 jugadores)
- Edad: 12-99 (contenidos codificados según la edad apropiada)
- Duración: 10-20 minutos, dependiendo del número de jugadorxs
- Requisitos: Acceso a una impresora para imprimir el tablero y las instrucciones + un dado y una ficha para cada participante

Snakes and Ladders: A Gamified Introduction to US Spanish
Learn to critically analyze the ideologies and prejudices underlying attitudes toward Spanish in contact with English, learn about the history of Spanish in the U.S., the linguistic rights of Spanish speakers, and standards and recommended practices in translation and interpretation through the game “Ladders and Snakes: U.S. Spanish.” The goal of the participants is to preserve their Spanish and pass it on to the next generation. To do so, they will have to face several challenges. “Ladders and Snakes” is an open educational resource.
TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS
- Format: Snakes and ladders (or chutes and ladders) + trivia
- Participants: 2-6 (organizer + 1-5 players)
- Age: 12-99 (contents coded according to age-appropriateness)
- Duration: 10-20 minutes, depending on the number of players
- Requirements: Access to a printer to print the board and instructions + a die and a token for each participant
