One of the most important topics from chapter 1 was the Nature vs Nurture debate. The Nature vs. Nurture is a controversial debate that has been going on since the discovery of science and psychology. The debate is whether genetic inheritance or the environmental factors around you influence your human development greater than the other. There are a plethora of views to this debate; however, when debating you have to analyze the facts of the topic. Nature definitely controls human development on individual factors such as: inherited intelligence, genes, looks, certain disabilities, and some diseases. Nurture is basically everything other than inherited genes. Nurture controls environmental factors such as: religion, economic status, quality of education, music, foods, and political views.

I believe that nurture has an advantage over nature. Nurture shapes you into the person you want to become in accordance to the environmental factors around you. Some of my nurture factors are being Catholic, middle class, attended public schools, grew up playing socccer, and I am a Democrat. My nature factors are long eyelashes, black hair, small body, and Hispanic. I believe that since my nurture factors are changeable with time nurture has a greater advantge over nature.

During my planned career ,which is teaching, I now understand that there school environment can really affect a child’s nurture. Student’s educational lives can really influence a child’s potential in life. I would do my best to provide an appropriate environment throughout my career.
