Intelligence is one of the broadest topics in development across lifespan. There were many contributers to the understanding on intelligence. Alfred Binet developed the 1905 scale measuring intelligence for the first time. Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences is one of the most modern theories in identifying the gifted and talented. The theory states that there are eight specific intelligences: musical, body-kinesthetic, linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalistic. Also, Terman invented the iq equation (mental age/chronological age * 100). Lastly, Catell and Horn discovered fluid and crystallized intelligence. Fluid intelligence is the ability to think and perform a problem fast in new situations. Crystallized intelligence is the gaining knowledge, skills, and experience through time which you remember.

Throughout my development I have showed various forms of intelligence. According to Howard Gardners theory I have a good bodily-kinesthetic and logical-mathematical intelligence. I am very good at timing my movement and using soccer footwork to pass my opponents. I have also showed signs of logical-mathematical abilities by getting mostly A’s in math. My favorite subject is math and I am intrigued by solving problems fast. Also, I have a very good fluid intelligence. I love to perform new probelms during new situations. I can use what I know to solve new problems.

I can now understand that intellignence is a very important factor during a child’s educational development. Students iq’s will be evaluated to see where students fall under the average intelligence. Also, I understand that students can be intelligent in different ways. For example, a student can be bad in school and have no ability in linguistics or logical-mathematical ability. However, that student can have a very unique musical ability or the individual can possess remarkable athletic skills. There are various combinations of intelligence according to Howard Gardner. Students can have very different forms of intelligence and I have to be patient in understanding each individual student.
