The University of Memphis is proud to announce the 11th Annual Norm Brewer First Amendment Lecture on Thursday, April 6th. This year’s featured lecturer is Cara Owsley, director of photography for the Cincinnati Enquirer and a Pulitzer Prize winner.
The event will be held at the Maxine A. Smith UC Theater and will begin with a reception at 5 p.m. The program will start at 6 p.m. and is expected to be a thought-provoking and engaging discussion of the importance of the First Amendment.
Cara Owsley has worked as a photojournalist for over 20 years, capturing images that have been featured in newspapers and magazines around the world. In 2018, she was part of the Cincinnati Enquirer team that won a Pulitzer Prize for their coverage of the heroin epidemic in Ohio.
The Norm Brewer First Amendment Lecture is named in honor of Norm Brewer, a former anchor and news director at WMC-TV, the opinion editor of The Commercial Appeal, a daily commentator at WREG-TV, and a strong advocate for the First Amendment. The event is free and open to the public.
