The ROAR, UofM’s Streaming Radio Station, Moves to Meeman

The ROAR, the University of Memphis’ streaming radio station, has relocated from the basement of the theatre building to a new home in the Meeman Journalism building.

The station features over 15 shows and involves approximately 30 students who contribute content to entertain listeners 24/7. The new studios are now located in 113 Meeman.

TK King, assistant professor of practice and faculty advisor for The ROAR, is excited about the move.

“I think it’s just a really, really good idea to have all of us — all of the media outlets — in-house,” King said.

Most of the students who produce content for The ROAR have previously taken King’s Intro to Radio course and are familiar with the station’s equipment and operations.

They also enjoy a lot of freedom with the content they chose to air. Most produce one-hour shows while others do 30-minute programs to help them ease into the process.

Apart from running online 24/7, The ROAR has a partnership with WYXR 91.7 FM, providing students with the opportunity to gain experience at a broadcast radio station.

Students interested in joining The ROAR can contact TK King at tsking@memphis.edu or fill out an interest form online.
