Distinguished Alumni Award
The Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music celebrates and honors the rich legacy of learning and accomplishments by those graduates who have excelled in their chosen field or performed exemplary service to our community. The award aims to publicly recognize alumni for distinguished personal and career accomplishments and exemplary contributions to society that bring credit to the University of Memphis.
The School of Music will announce honorees annually at the Spring Award Ceremony in April.
Nomination Timeline:
2023 Distinguished Alumni Award online nominations are currently open and will close on Friday, April 7, 2023, at 5 p.m.
Criteria for Nominations:
Recipients will be accomplished in the following areas reflective of the UofM and the School of Music’s core beliefs – excellence, collaboration, diversity and inclusion, innovation and service.
Eligible Nominees:
To be eligible for nomination, the candidate must:
- Have been enrolled in a regular course of study at the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music.
- Have attained extraordinary distinction and success in their profession or life.
- Be someone of such integrity and stature that the School will take pride in their recognition.
- Have attained regional, national, or international prominence and significant involvement in civic, cultural, or charitable affairs.
Nomination Process:
In addition to completing and submitting the Award Nomination Form (required), nominators are encouraged to provide supporting items that further distinguish the nominee. Such items include, but are not limited to:
- Letter of nomination written by the nominator
- Up to three letters of support (with only one being from a family member) that specifically address the criteria.
- Current biography or curriculum vitae for the individual
- Newspaper and magazine articles and/or links
- Personal stories
- Awards or certificates of achievement
- Other items of interest
Upon nomination, the nominee will be contacted to confirm nomination acceptance and obtain additional information.
Music Educator of the Year Award
The Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music celebrates and honors the accomplishments of educators who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the music education field and demonstrate a commitment to educating and inspiring the next generation of musicians and music lovers. The award aims to publicly recognize music educators for distinguished career accomplishments and exemplary contributions to society and the music they have made.
- Active music educator or administrator who teaches music in public or private schools, kindergarten through college. Teachers in after-school, private studios, or other educational settings are not eligible.
- Have been in music education for 5 or more years
- Have attained extraordinary distinction and success in their profession.
- Have attained significant and ongoing contributions to the study and instruction of music.
- Be someone of such integrity and stature that the School of Music will take pride in their recognition.
- Letter of nomination written by the nominator (required)
- Up to three letters of support (one must be from an administrator and only one from a family member) specifically address the criteria.
- Current resume or biography for the individual
- Newspaper and magazine articles and/or links
- Personal stories
- Awards or certificates of achievement
- Other items of interest
