What we Do

Step into my Laboratory…

The Alexander Laboratories were established in August 2012 at the University of Memphis. Research in the Labs focuses on Science at the Interface – between the phases of gas, liquid, and solid – across the scientific disciplines of chemistry, physics, materials, and biology – and between pure and applied science. In our investigations, we employ state-of-the-art experimental technology in combination with cutting-edge computational approaches. Students in the group are exposed to both facets of the group, providing broad exposure to modern chemistry techniques which span spectroscopy, ultra-high vacuum, computation, instrument design, etc. In formation about a few of our ongoing projects are summarized in the Lab sub-pages.

Current and Past Projects
Uranium hexafluoride reactions with organics
Large-scale simulations of environmentally-relevant amorphous surfaces
Water resource sampling and monitoring with aerial amphibious drones
Development of ab initio based analytical potential energy surfaces
Surface modification and characterization
Selective promotion of reactions at organic surfaces using molecular beam techniques
Microscale surface architecture using click chemistry
Infrared spectroscopic probes of protein and surface solvation environment

I am always happy to talk to students interested in our research. We have a need for students who are eager to learn and get involved in developing new and exciting research at UofM!
