The Difference Between HyBRID and HyFLEX
In Hybrid classes, students and faculty switch between onground and online classes during the term. Faculty decides when the class meets in person, basing their decisions upon many factors. Some faculty choose to give all materials online and just have the class meet for tests; others split on ground and online time 50/50. Some faculty ask the students for their preferences; others make unilateral decisions.
In Hyflex courses, students decide when they wish to be in class and when they want to be online. This means that faculty must make sure all materials and assessments are accessible both ways. The hyflex model combines Face-to-Face, synchronous online, and asynchronous online models. Those teaching this way need to consider how they can replicate anything done on ground to online and vice versa.
