Easily turn PowerPoints and other documents into narrated videos with screen casting software.
Step 1: Choose your software
Screen casting programs record as video everything on your computer screen plus your voice and face, if desired. Choose a screen sharing program and install it on your computer. UM3D suggests either Loom or Screencast-o-matic. Both have excellent how-to videos and are easy to use. You can even use recorded Zoom meetings in which you shared your screen.
Step 2: Record your presentation
Record your presentation following the software instructions. Keep videos short by only discussing one or two topics per video. Don’t aim for perfection; a few “ums” make you human.
Step 3: save presentation
Your video should save to your computer as a .mp4 file. If it was saved somewhere else, such as to the cloud, download it to your computer.
Step 4: Upload to Ensemble
Upload the video to the university’s video server, Ensemble, following these directions . You can also do simple editing in Ensemble.
Step 5: embed video in eCourseware
In eCoureware, embed the video following these directions:
Choose new file, insert stuff, embed ensemble.
Embedded videos play directly in web pages.
Step 6: Caption
Option 1 M50 (Global) courses:
- Send an email to your UM3D instructional designer listing the name and location of the video and that it is ready for captioning.
Option 2 Non M50 (Global) courses:
- Caption the video yourself. Follow these directions to caption for free in YouTube.
