Online Course Orientation Module

Audience: Current UofM Students

Online learning is a great opportunity that provides a great deal of flexibility and convenience in earning your degree. You can log onto this course from anywhere in the world, and whenever it is convenient for you.

This online class may include individual assignments, discussion postings, and quizzes/exams;  there are may also be cooperative group projects and group assignments. Your instructor will support you by: guiding you through activities, posting announcements, providing lectures, responding to questions, and providing timely feedback on assignments and exams. Most importantly, online learning requires significant responsibility on your part to be prepared, remain engaged, and be successful.

In order to help you be better prepared for online learning, this brief orientation will provide you a guide to:

A. Understanding the Learning Environment.

Goals include: (a) understanding the online learning environment, (b) identifying technical requirements, (c) navigating course content, and (d) setting email notifications.

B. Getting Engaged in an Online Course.

Goals include: (a) managing and setting personal goals, (b) putting forth effort and striving for success, (c) finding your path, and (d) staying focused.

C. Identifying Online Student Support.

Goals include: (a) accessing online software tutorials, (b) scheduling an online tutoring session, (c) setting up online exam proctoring, (d) getting technology support, and (e) contacting your advisor.
