Parish Receives National Women of Distinction Award

Dr. Sally Parish

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — University Schools Director Dr. Sally Parish has been named a 2026 Woman of Distinction by the District Administration Leadership Institute (DALI). The nationwide award, which recognizes women who have demonstrated stellar leadership in education, selects only five recipients each year from hundreds of nominations.

“It is truly an honor to be recognized for the work that we do every day on behalf of children and families in Memphis,” Parish said. “It is work that matters and work worth doing, and I consider myself fortunate to be able to do it alongside such a talented team.”

Parish’s award continues a trend of accolades for University Schools in 2025. Since becoming Tennessee’s first Innovative School District in 2024, the district has celebrated two teachers: Robin Webb and Betsy Pillow receiving statewide teacher of the year honors in their respective subjects, earned a No. 2 ranking in TCAP scores among the state’s 148 districts, opened Campus School Kimball — the first new elementary school in more than a century — and expanded University High to include 12th grade, paving the way for its first graduating senior class in 2026. All of these milestones have come under Parish’s leadership.

“The superintendency is evolving beyond operational management to encompass civic stewardship,” said Amy Dujon, Vice President of Education for Community EDU. “Our award winners embody a new model of leadership—one that unites vision, trust, and community engagement to build resilient, future-focused school systems.”

“Dr. Parish’s leadership has done much more than simply guide our district. It has ignited it,” said Nick Simpson, director of outreach and strategic communications for University Schools. “Her vision, integrity, and relentless belief in what educators and students can achieve have shaped University Schools into a place where excellence, joy, and love of learning live side by side.”

DALI is a national membership organization for superintendents and other senior K-12 education leaders. The organization’s awards of distinction honor leaders and districts across the country, with the Woman of Distinction Award recognizing female leaders who drive measurable improvements in student success.
