Aug. 28, 2025 ̶ ̶ ̶ The University of Memphis announced today that it is unifying under the iconic Leaping Tiger as its official logo across all brands, including academics, athletics and non-academic programs. This move reflects the University’s transition to a branded house identity, building strength and recognition through one of the most powerful and nationally recognized assets in its history.
Research on the importance of brand consistency played a pivotal role in this decision. A recent national brand research study revealed that the Leaping Tiger has greater recognition than any other mark previously used by the University. By committing fully to this symbol, the University is reinforcing its reputation and elevating Memphis as a national brand.
“The Leaping Tiger reflects who we are as a University — bold, determined and always moving forward,” said Michele Ehrhart, SVP, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer for the University of Memphis. “This strategy strengthens our ability to empower, inspire and connect with students, alumni and the Memphis community while keeping our commitment of a successful outcome for every student.”
By unifying under a single, recognizable logo, the University ensures that every program, initiative and department contributes to a consistent and powerful message about the Memphis experience.
The rollout of the new brand identity will continue through Fall 2025, with a formal brand launch on Oct. 20. The University will fully transition away from the previous “pillar mark” by July 1, 2028, ensuring consistency across all touchpoints.
