July 15, 2025 ̶ ̶ University of Memphis Athletics is celebrating three athletes who received NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships following the 2024-25 academic year.
Graduates Pablo Alemany (Men’s Tennis), Logan Longo (Men’s Soccer) and Jack Kersey (Rifle) each received a $10,000 scholarship from the NCAA in recognition of their athletic achievements, academic performance, community service, campus involvement and leadership in their respective sport.
“What an extraordinary accomplishment by our three student-athletes who have earned the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship,” said Dr. Ed Scott, senior vice president and director of Intercollegiate Athletics. “In my 20-plus years as an athletics administrator, this is the first time I’ve seen one institution have three honorees in one year (fall, winter, spring) which is truly exceptional.”
The feat is significant in that it makes the UofM one of only a handful of institutions this year to have multiple athletes receive the scholarship. The NCAA awards up to 126 scholarships per year, 42 in each season: fall, winter and spring. Totaling men’s and women’s programs, only 12 institutions had three or more athletes receive the prestigious scholarship.
The University of Memphis (3) joins the University of Chicago (5), Emory University (5), University of Texas (4), Pomona-Pitzer (4), Wingate University (4), University of Georgia (3), Texas Tech University (3), Washington University in St. Louis (3), The College of Wooster (3), Augustana University (3) and Nebraska Wesleyan University (3).
“Their academic success is a direct reflection of their relentless work ethic, discipline, and pursuit of excellence—values that are also reflected in our record-breaking GPA this past spring,” Scott continued. “We couldn’t be prouder of the way our student-athletes continue to raise the bar academically.”
The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship program was established in 1964 to encourage graduates to pursue graduate-level degree programs.
Pablo Alemany, Men’s Tennis (3.96 GPA)
Racking up a 31-15 overall record this season, Alemany was named to the American’s All-Conference Team for singles after an 18-6 spot with a perfect 5-0 in league play at the No. 2 position. During his run this season, Alemany strung together a 16-match winning streak that stretched from Feb. 16-April 19. The AAC’s 2024 Player of the Year, Alemany was named to the American’s postseason awards list for four consecutive years.
“I’m incredibly honored to receive the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship,” Alemany said.
“This award is the perfect ending to my college tennis career, and it will be instrumental in helping me continue my education. I’m deeply grateful to the University of Memphis for the amazing opportunity to represent them these past four years. I also want to thank my coaches, teammates, professors, staff and friends for all their support and for making this journey so special. I truly could not have asked for a better college experience.”
“Pablo has so many tennis accolades and we are so excited to showcase the other side of him,” Head Men’s Tennis Coach Chris Doerr said. “He has done so well academically, but also socially being fully involved with SAAC in all his years at Memphis. He is a true Tiger that cares about his school on and off the court so for him to receive this award was very refreshing to see.”
Alemany graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in international business while serving as SAAC vice president.
Logan Longo, Men’s Soccer (4.0 GPA)
Longo was a key factor in leading Memphis to an (AAC) regular season championship in 2024. After moving into a starting role in 2023, where he made 13 starts and logged over 1,200 minutes in defense, Longo was a full-time starter for the Tigers in 2024. In his graduate season, he was a three-time AAC weekly honorable mention, culminating in recognition as a 2024 All-AAC Second Team selection. Longo recorded seven goal contributions (four goals, three assists), was one of three Memphis players to start all 17 matches and was the only Tiger to play all 1,530 minutes.
“It means so much to be selected for such a prestigious honor. God has truly blessed me in more ways than I can count,” Longo said.” I’m beyond grateful to the University of Memphis and the opportunities the University has provided me. It has truly been an honor to represent my hometown on and off the field. I pray that I continue to maximize future opportunities and represent Memphis as a school and a city to the best of my ability.”
“What separates Logan from many, and what I believe helped him earn this prestigious award is his true character,” said Head Coach Richard Mulrooney. “He is a team-first type of player and I know that, along with his work ethic, will take him as far as he wants to go in life. We wish him all the best as he moves forward in his journey.”
Longo graduated in May 2024 with bachelor’s degrees in chemistry and psychology while minoring in both Spanish and healthcare and society. He is currently working toward a Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in urban health. In the coming fall, Longo will be attending medical school with the hopes of becoming a physician.
Jack Kersey, Rifle (3.66 GPA)
Elected as team captain, Kersey ended his rifle career by shooting in all 14 matches in 2024-25, finishing with averages of 576.4 in smallbore, 589.6 in air rifle and 1166 in aggregate. He posted nine top 10 finishes in aggregate scoring, including a 4th-place finish against Army. Kersey also finished top 10, nine times in air rifle and five times in smallbore. Kersey also earned Academic All-American honors from 2020 to 2025 and was named to the Graduate Student Association Top 30 Under 35.
“This award is truly an honor, and I am proud to represent the University of Memphis on a national level,” Kersey said. “During my time at Memphis, I have learned what it means to take full advantage of all the opportunities that are afforded to me. I hope this inspires other Memphis student-athletes to make the most of their experience here and strive for excellence outside of competitions for the University.”
“I can’t think of anyone more deserving of this than Jack,” said Head Coach Morgan Wilson. “He has been the true embodiment of a student-athlete over his five years at Memphis. Balancing academics and athletics is already hard enough, but Jack also took on more responsibility serving as SAAC President over the last two years. He is proud to be a Tiger and to serve his community. Jack has very specific postgraduate plans and I know this scholarship will help him reach his goals. We are all very excited to see what Jack accomplishes in his future.”
Kersey graduated magna cum laude with honors with a bachelor’s degree in sport and leisure management, while minoring in English. He is currently working toward a Master of Business Administration and will use the scholarship to help him complete his degree in the Fall of 2025.
