Salvation Army Service Learning Project for ECED and MSED students

Fall 2013, ECED and MSED teacher candidates researched community resources that are available to help underserved populations of the Memphis community, including homeless shelter residents. Teacher candidates used the project-based service learning opportunity to get to know the resources, and lack thereof, of Memphis for use with future students and their families. Additionally, the project has helped students empathize with underserved populations in Memphis and is beginning to prepare them to be better informed advocates for these families. This will mark the third service learning project between Salvation Army and the group of ECED teacher candidates and the first for the MSED teacher candidates. The Salvation Army continues to welcome our partnership as it benefits both them and our teachers-to-be.
