Double Reed Festival – October 8
Participants of all ages and performance levels are invited to join Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music for Double Reed Day! The University of Memphis oboe and bassoon professors Michelle Vigneau and Daryn Zubke invite you to attend a day of master classes, workshops and a double reed choir.Participants will enjoy a day full of master classes, artist recitals and the Double Reed Ensemble. A separate reed-making masterclass will offer multiple stations showing guests how to make reeds step-by-step. The final reed station will be with our guest artists, where they will show how to finish a reed.

The Memphis International Piano Festival and Competition exists to celebrate the piano through concerts, masterclasses, and competitive and non-competitive performance events. Students and music lovers of all ages are encouraged to attend and participate in events. Enjoy a weekend filled with concerts, masterclasses and other events!

The 2023 Honors String Orchestra and String Quartet Festival is a unique musical experience sponsored by the University of Memphis Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music. The Festival runs for four days and is held on the campus of the University of Memphis. Participating students will benefit from masterclasses, sectionals, and instruction led by University of Memphis string faculty members and guest musicians from the Memphis Symphony Orchestra.

Community Clarinet Festival – Nov. 5
The 2023 University of Memphis Community Clarinet Festival is a free, fun, unique musical experience sponsored by the University of Memphis Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music.

Open to clarinetists of all ages are invited to enjoy a day full of:

  • Classes for all levels of All-West Clarinet Audition Music (middle and high school)
  • Performance by Dr. Robyn Jones and guest teachers
  • “A Day in the Life”: members of the University of Memphis clarinet studio will perform and talk about what it’s like to pursue music in college
  • Breakout sessions on various topics such as: reed care, mindfulness for musicians and auxiliary instruments (e-flat, bass clarinet)
  • Clarinet choir reading session and informal performance, followed by a reception

Mark your calendars for an extraordinary event celebrating the power and beauty of the treble voice! The inaugural Mazi Treble Choir Festival and Concert is set to take place on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. This full-day event promises to be a remarkable gathering of treble singers from the surrounding areas, immersing them in a day filled with musical experiences and social connections.

Attention all tenor and bass singers! Prepare for an exciting and unforgettable event—the first annual TigerChor Tenor/Bass Festival and Concert! This one-day festival celebrates the lower vocal range and promises a collaborative performance experience. TigerChor and other tenor/bass choirs from the Memphis area will come together for a day filled with music, learning, and camaraderie. Stay tuned for the announcement of participating choirs.

Memphis Flute Festival – Jan. 28

Get ready for a day of flute-filled festivities at the Memphis Flute Festival! This all-day event celebrates the flute and flutists from the region, bringing together flutists of all ages and ability levels for a day of music, activities, workshops and performances.
Whether you’re a beginner, an intermediate player, or an advanced flutist, the Mid-South Flute Festival has something for everyone. Attendees will learn new skills, gain valuable insights, and refine their playing under the guidance of experienced professionals.

34th Annual Honor Band Festival – Feb. 1-3
Experience the magic of music at the 34th Annual Honor Band Festival hosted by the University of Memphis Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music. This prestigious three-day event brings together talented high school musicians from across the region for a memorable musical experience.

The festival begins with rehearsals led by esteemed conductors, allowing participants to enhance their musical skills and collaborate with their peers. The two Honor Bands, carefully selected from the top high school musicians, will showcase their talent and dedication through inspiring performances.

One of the highlights of the Honor Band is an exceptional performance by the Univeristy Wind Ensemble and Southern Comfort Jazz Orchestra for the Honor Band participants, parents and directors.

The 5th Annual Percussion Ensemble Festival presents an exciting and enriching event for high school percussionists and enthusiasts. Bringing together talented individuals and esteemed professionals to celebrate percussion music and provide educational opportunities, the festival features high school solo and ensemble performances.

During the Percussion Ensemble Festival, the participating percussion ensembles can work closely with guest clinicians in a masterclass setting. This format allows the ensembles to receive personalized feedback, guidance and instruction from these experienced percussionists. In addition, the clinicians and Dr. Bill Shaltis, assistant professor of percussion, will share their expertise, offer tips and advice, and discuss important topics related to percussion performance.
