Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music Welcomes New Staff Members

The University of Memphis Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music is happy to welcome the following new staff members.

Marissa Manthongkham

Marissa Manthongkham Named Undergraduate Program Manager

As a native Memphian, music has always been an integral part of Marissa’s life, and she’s thrilled to contribute to the musical community of her hometown.

Dr. Manthongkham most recently served as Director of Operations and Educational Programming for PRIZM Ensemble of Memphis. She also maintains a clarinet teaching studio and is an active performing clarinet artist.

She is a graduate of Michigan State University, where she earned a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Clarinet Performance and gained advising experience. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and a Master of Music in performance from Baylor University.

 


 

George PaltonGeorge Palton Named Recruitment & Enrollment Coordinator

George Palton is from Cleveland, OH and completed his undergraduate studies at Bowling Green State University where he earned degrees in Music Education and Music Performance. George later went on to complete his graduate studies at the University of Kentucky where he received a Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts in Tuba Performance.

George will join us from DePauw University School of Music where he currently serves as Associate Director of Music Admissions. His experience includes working with music educators, prospective students, and their families throughout the entire application and audition process. For George, a family-like atmosphere is a central component of the college experience, one that is tangible among the driven, engaged, and welcoming student community.

During his spare time, George is most likely behind a tuba or in front of a grill. He enjoys traveling throughout the country to sample the very best barbeque and then returning home to replicate these famed dishes.

 


Kaleb RitchieKaleb Ritchie Named Scheduling Coordinator

As an alumnus of the University of Memphis, Kaleb Ritchie graduated in 2018 with a degree in Jazz Studio and Performance in Bass. He then returned to the University of Memphis to complete his master’s in jazz studies in 2020. Ritchie brings to the position a wealth of knowledge of the School of Music having previously served as Interim Scheduling Coordinator and Interim Facilities Manager. His experience as a student, staff member and adjunct commercial bass professor will serve him well in his new position.

Professionally, Ritchie has been teaching privately for over 6 years, teaching both classical and jazz students. He has played in a large number of varied ensembles, including groups such as The Platters, The Coasters, and The Drifters. He is an active member of the musical area in Memphis and is a full member of the Delta Symphony Orchestra in Jonesboro.
