The Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music is overjoyed to announce that conductor Dr. Isaac Selya will be Visiting Assistant Professor of Opera Conducting beginning this fall.
A musician of remarkable versatility, Dr. Selya has extensive experience as a conductor, pianist, vocal coach, cellist and entrepreneur. In recognition of his talent and entrepreneurialism, Musical America featured him as a Spotlight Artist.
Selya plans on continuing to work with Queen City Opera during his appointment. Besides being founder of his own opera company, Selya has a broad set of professional talents and achievements, which were deemed important in the hiring process.
“Dr. Isaac Selya is much admired as a conductor, pianist, coach, and an entrepreneur,” said Dr. Kevin Sanders, the director of the School of Music. “His work reflects all that we seek to instill in our students – the highest levels of professional artistry, collaboration, and commitment to sharing great music with the world. We are delighted to welcome Isaac to the Rudi Scheidt School of Music faculty as a visiting professor for 2020-2021.”
In recognition of his students’ potential and talent, Selya sets a high standard in the classroom in order to prepare them for a career in music after graduation. He said that he anticipates changes this semester will likely result in an increase in collaboration. “I am very much looking forward to the challenge of finding ways to make music and train students for this new artistic ecosystem,” Selya said. “I am also looking forward to channeling our renewed sense of purpose in this environment and finding ways that the arts can play an important role in rebuilding our communities and our connections to one another once it is safe to gather in large groups again.”
