Virya Quesada will give a talk about her experience as an orchestral musician in Mexico with a presentation of pre-recorded duets with Daryn Zubke.
Bassoonist Virya Quesada received her Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School in 2009 having studied with Judith LeClair. At Juilliard, she received the SYLFF Chamber Music Award, performed with The Juilliard Orchestra and the school’s contemporary music ensembles, Axiom and the New Juilliard Ensemble. She was the winner of the bassoon solo competition in 2007 and had her debut at the Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center performing Haydn’s Sinfonia Concertante. She was also first prize with the Loyola University Symphony Orchestra and the Costa Rican National Symphony Orchestra concerto competitions.
Mrs. Quesada’s orchestral experience include the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, The Louisiana Philharmonic, Sinfonica Toscanini, National Repertory Symphony Orchestra. She is currently living in Mexico and is Principal Bassoonist with Minería Symphony Orchestra, former principal bassoonist of the State of Mexico and a faculty member at the OECCH in Mexico City. Virya was born in Costa Rica and loves jogging and cookies.
