Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music Soloist Competition Announced

Each year, the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music hosts the Soloist Competition, allowing student musicians to compete for the School of Music’s prestigious performance prize. Winners will be soloists with the University of Memphis Symphony Orchestra and the Wind Ensemble in the spring.

This year’s final-round judges are the following:

  • Erin Kaste, Assistant Principal violin with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra
  • James Gholson, DMA, Professor of Clarinet at the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music, retired and Clarinet Principal of the Memphis Symphony, retired
  • Laurence Albert, Assistant Professor of Music at Tougaloo College
  • Susan Yang, Assistant Professor of the Practice of Piano at Vanderbilt University Blair School of Music

The deadline for submission of applications is October 7.
Completed applications should be emailed to Harvey Felder, hfelder@memphis.edu by 5 pm on 10/7.

PRELIMINARY ROUNDS

  • October 19, 9 AM to Noon, Harris Auditorium: Strings
  • October 20, 9 AM to Noon, Harris Auditorium: Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion
  • October 21, 9 AM to Noon, Harris Auditorium: Vocal and Keyboard

FINAL ROUND

  • November 4, Noon – 3 PM, Harris Auditorium
