About Languages Across Cultures (LAC)

Languages Across Cultures Memphis (LAC Memphis) is a continuation of a previously NSF-Minerva funded project which examines how leaders and other actors in international relations use language. Our team has been selected to receive a $1.2m award from the Minerva Initiative for a project called “A Computational Assessment of Social Disequilibrium and Security Threats.” This project has three components: identifying language components associated with armed crises; identifying bluffs and credible threats; and examining the language associated with protests, riots, and rebellions.
